In front of the screen porch. In previous years I am certain that the daffodils bloomed while there were young ferns here. So either there are some late daffodils mixed in here, or the flowers are early this (hot) year.:

Viburnum Pink Dawn (mostly finished - why 'o' why didn't I get out earlier with my camera? I am not sure what to do with this shrub. On one hand I love having it here because I see it constantly when it is in bloom out my kitchen window, but on the other hand I also see that it is getting very large and is going to eventually become the majority of my view from my kitchen window - and frankly the shrub is no great shakes after it's incredibly early bloom time. I would much rather see the wetlands beyond it for the other 50 weeks of the year...):

Rhubarb (there are 2):

Azaleas (I should move these as they don't look great here and are annoying to mow around. I planted them about 4 years ago and they have hardly grown. I had thought that they would get much bigger but they were untagged at the nursery I bought them from - perhaps they are a dwarf variety):

Viburnum and close up:

These are the noxious weeds that are plaguing me everywhere. They thrive in full sun and grow about 5 feet tall by the end of the summer, choking out absolutely everything around them). They spread by underground runners, and are very hard to get rid of by physical means at least - I may need to try some sort of herbicide. They are up earlier than most things, so it may work to spray them in early spring:

Eveline Veronica:

Creeping speedwell (it looks like I lost another of these to construction):

Violets under viburnum:

Salvia May Night:

Violets by basement window well:

Evidence of crocus (about 2' in front of violets):

Russian Sage (deformed by being suffocated for the last two years by that damn noxious weed), plus close up:

2 plants growing practically on top of each other - need to be moved! Salvia and nepeta:

Woody plant, plus close up. I can't remember what this plant is called, but my memory is that it blooms blue later in the the year (August/September/October?) Liz has one too -maybe she knows what it is?:

Golden bluebeard 'Blue Sunshine,' and close up:

Sedum 'Chocolate Ball':

Dianthus 'Bath's Pink':

Geranium 'Dily's':

Baptisia 'Twilight Prairie':

South side of the house:

Southwest corner of the house. The stuff in this bed was just heeled in for the winter by some laborers, and they put everything really, really close together.:

Heucherra 'Miracle':

Nepeta 'Blue Fox':

Creeping speedwell:

Red Barronwort:

Oak Leaf hydrangea:

Brunnera 'Spring Yellow':

Heucherra:

Nepeta 'Blue Fox':

An incredibly lovely daffodil (I had planted my loveliest in this bed, but they have been mostly lost during the construction on this side of the house. I am glad that at least one survives):

Bradford Pear:

Crab apple on the hill:

Maple with little blue flowers in lawn underneath:

Wisteria (this is only just starting to leaf out):

Dogwood close up:

Dark Purple lilac (still bare - I am afraid that we have lost this old lilac. It's flowers were SO beautiful, and it blooms at the same time as the dogwood beside it - very, very lovely - but the wisteria keeps choking it...to death I suppose. I did try to rejuvenate this lilac in the fall by cutting down one of it's three main trunks, but perhaps this assault just was too much for it):

2 lavender lilacs:

Alcea rosa (white):

Lilac 'Miss Kim":

Mystery plant (spirea?) and close up (the mystery plants below have all come out of my garden beds where there was construction last fall). The ground froze up last year before I had anywhere to put them, and they all seem to miraculously survived the winter and are doing just fine in their plastic bags!):

Mystery plant (fothergilla?) and close up:

Heucherra (2):

Mystery plant:

Roses - I wish I knew a bit about pruning roses and what to do around their base. They are just a few awkward long sprays, and I would like them to get bushier. And they are growing in grass that gets quite high and looks very weedy:

Views of the berm (from left to right):

Stewartia:

Dogwood:

Potentilla...I was so enamored of potentilla when I bought all of these because they bloom so faithfully for so long...but they just look so weedy at this time of year and through the winter...they would look better perhaps if they weren't all alone here - but what to go with them?:

Crab Apple:

Violets behind potentilla:

Broom:

Potentilla in planter (very few small signs of life). I should get this out of her and put it somewhere else, but ugh, I don't know where.:

Nepeta 'Kit Cat':

Espresso geranium:

Bunchberry:

Sedum, Daffodils, and pleasant weed:

Daffodils by screen porch:

Christmas rose and close up:

Smoke tree 'Young Lady', and close up of storm damage:

Bushes on neighbor's property by the side of our driveway (wild roses?) I want to keep my eye on this to see if it ever turns into anything nice:

Shrub of value? On steep slope to the wetlands (2 shots). I want to keep my eye on this over the summer to see if it ever gets particularly...anything.:

Purple smoke tree:

Shrub in garden bed beside driveway that I think is dead:

Joe Pie Weed (no signs of life as of yet):

Bamboo:

Views of garden bed beside driveway. This garden bed looked great for several years. Now the shrubs in it have all grown too big for their allotted spaces, one of the shrubs is dead, there are some weeds, and the daffodils are totally buried while they are blooming. This bed needs some real work at this point:

Weeds along south side of driveway edge:

Daffodils along south side of the driveway (1pm):

Rocky side of driveway (2 photos):

Outside corner of the berm (2 photos):

Weeds coming up in gravel driveway:

View of garden bed by the mailbox. This garden bed looks terrible. It needs a total makeover.:

Remains of lots of lovely crocus - I wish that I had gotten a photo of them while they were in bloom - they were lovely. And it would be nice to have some more little flowering bulbs that bloom at the same time as the daffodils (the crocus were already finished by the time the daffodils began):

Dogwood:

Dead shrubby thing:

Potentilla (not super happy):

Russian sage (with a couple of signs of life):

Another dead shrubby thing:

Viburnum pink dawn (didn't bloom this year - this suffered a lot of die back and is only now recovering. It never bloomed much at all in this location though - too much wind and salt and cold I think - I really should move it into the more sheltered area of the berm):

Viburnum birkwoodi and close up. This is a nice viburnum, that seems to be able to handle itself out here by the road, but it is actually in an annoying place because it reduces visibility at the end of the driveway. Ideally I should move it before it gets bigger (for the sake of visibility and my back):

Daffodils and vinca:

Other thing:

Budlia (white). This is awkwardly shaped and could do with some pruning.:

Something in bloom:

Purple budlia. This was ripped from the ground last year as it had grown too big for it's spot by the house. Unfortunately, not much root wanted to come with it. It seems to be dead.:

Views of the berm (2):

Yellow plant (I don't know what this is):
